Greenpeace orang-utans take over the Unilever building - picture taken from Greenpeace's Flickstream

As I cycled over Blackfriars Bridge on my ride into work this morning, I was cheerily greeted by a number of orang-utans, perched on the balcony of the Unilever building.

It’s part of a Greenpeace campaign against Dove, a Unilever brand, and its use of palm oil, damaging the environment and threatening some already rare species including, of course, orang-utans.

Impressive stuff – not only did it make my morning and cause a chuckle as I wound my way up Farringdon St, it’s a great example of activism and social media in action.

I found out what it was all about via the Londonist blog, which took me to Unilever response, on to the Greenpeace Flickr photo set and lastly to the Greenpeace’s campaign site where you can find more.

I recommend you do.
